Virtual Lab: Approximately 45 minutes Hands-On Version: Approximately 3 weeks How does the presence of additional nutrients affect the process of succession? If nutrients are added to an ecosystem, then the composition of the plant community at different stages of succession will also change because different species take advantage of different soil conditions. Independent Variable: presence of compost Dependent Variable #1: average number of sprouts for each species Dependent Variable #2: average height of the sprouts for each species You will conduct a controlled experiment within a large plot of land. Half of the plot will receive nutrients, and the other half, as the control, will not. The plot will be divided into 1’ x 1’ sections, called quadrats. You will be examining a quadrat from both the nutrient portion and the control portion of the plot. You will measure both the number of new sprouts and their heights over a three-week period. At four different points, samples will be taken for comparison and analysis between the two different groups: areas with additional nutrients and areas without additional nutrients. How do clashes of ideology impact governments and how people live?

Answers

Answer:

Clash of Ideologies:

Communism, Islam, and the West

by John Walker

5th December 2015

Islam and CommunismFor much of the 20th century, and especially after the end of World War II and the emergence of the Cold War, an ideological struggle existed between communism in its various forms (Soviet, Maoist, etc.) and the Western ideals of consensual government, economic freedom, and individual liberty. This conflict was waged in many ways and on many levels: in explicit military confrontation in conflicts such as Korea and Vietnam, in proxy wars in Africa and Latin America, in quests for prestige such as the space race, and in propaganda and efforts to influence popular opinion.

defeated was the ideology of communism. By whatever means, individual liberty, self-determination, and economic freedom must triumph in every way over collectivism, tyranny, and enslavement to the state.

To this end, a wide variety of strategies were employed, all with the goal of demonstrating to those in the unaligned world that the Western model was superior and, by all means available, discrediting the communist model within the nations it enslaved. The goal was destroying the communist ideology, as it was fundamentally incompatible with the enlightenment values of the West.

This brings us to the present day, and to Islam. “We aren't at war with Islam”, Western politicians say. Fine, but that isn't the question, is it? For most of the Cold War, the West wasn't at war with communism, either. But the West recognised communism as an ideology which, if it triumphed in its stated goal to spread around the world, would forever extinguish Western values. Many argued that the best that could be hoped for was a stalemate where the West and communism could co-exist, but others feared a ratchet effect where territory which fell to communism was forever forfeit and the light of freedom would slowly gutter and die as darkness encroached.

Others saw the internal contradictions in communism: that it impoverished its people, stifled their creativity and spirit of enterprise, and was inherently uncompetitive. They believed that, with a sufficient push, the entire corrupt structure would collapse and, in the end, they were right.

The way in which the clashes of ideology impact governments and how people live was the struggle to impose Western ideas and the various means to show one ideology was better.

What is an Ideology?

This refers to the set of beliefs or philosophy which people have and which differs from place to place.

Hence, we can see that during the Cold War, there was a clash of the ideology of Communism and Capitalism between the United States and the Soviet Union.

The term "Glasnost" refers to the freedom that the government allowed or gave the people to be open about their opinions. It is the freedom given to openly criticize the government in the USSR.

This policy of "openness" was allowed as a means of a political weapon. This is because the Soviet Union was in need of reconstruction and this policy was a means to 'bring in' various issues. This policy allowed open discussion of political issues, criticism of the government, and also allowed for freer spreading of information.

O Union commanders redistributed most plantation lands to former slaves.
O Much of the infrastructure in the region was destroyed.
O There was a surplus of cotton for export so the price of cotton crashed.

Answers

Answer:

It is the first answer because after the war most of the northern states gave their debts to the south

Explanation:

The South's difficult economic situation following the Civil War was caused by the Union's demand that it pay for the whole cost of the conflict. As a result, choice (A) is right.

In the Western Theater of the battle between 1861 and 1862, the Union won important long-term advances, but the Eastern Theater of the struggle ended in a draw.

When Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, declaring all slaves in states in rebellion to be free (applicable to more than 3.5 million of the 4 million enslaved persons in the country), the abolition of slavery was made a priority of the Union military effort. By the summer of 1862, the Union had decimated the Confederacy's river navy, followed by a large portion of its western forces, and had taken control of New Orleans.

Which factor contributed to the Spanish defeat of the Incas?

the greater number of Spanish soldiers

the Inca's decentralized form of government

the chaos causes by years of civil war within the Incan Empire

the help provided by the armies of the Aztec and Maya empires

Answers

Answer:

the inca's decentralized form of gov.

The factor that contributed to the Spanish defeat of the Incas is the Inca's decentralized form of government. Option (b) is correct.

What was the cause of the Inca civil war?

The deaths of Sapa Inca Huayna Capac and his eldest son Ninan Cuyochi, who was the heir apparent and left no clear successor, both from smallpox in 1527 set off the civil war.

The prevalent theory holds that the Inca were ultimately vanquished because of subpar weaponry, “open warfare” tactics, illness, internal turmoil, the daring Spanish strategy, and the capture of the Inca Emperor.

The American natives lacked natural protection to illnesses like measles and smallpox that the Europeans introduced. They spread like wildfire, killing millions of people, in addition to the monarchs of the Aztecs and the Incas.

Therefore, Option (b) is correct.

What is the difference between Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS)?

Answers

Answer:

The difference is that the IaaS is completely configurable as needed, while the SaaS is a fixed, ready-to-use model.

Explanation:

Both IaaS and SaaS are cloud storage structures, used by a set of computers connected to each other, chewing to the point of sharing the same processing, memory and disk.

The main difference between these two structures is system configurability. That's because the IaaS is completely configurable, being able to completely adapt to the users' demand, allowing the systems to be scaled, or reduced according to the amount of resource, or demand. SaaS, on the other hand, does not have this configurability, being a system already fixed and ready to be used when users already have a very clear purpose, with determined and controlled resources that focus on just one need, already studied and understood.

Carson was the author of an autobiography, Gifted Hands (1990), written with Cecil Murphey, as well as several motivational books. In 1983 Carson moved to Perth, Australia, to work as a chief neurosurgery resident at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. After a year spent gaining experience, he returned to Johns Hopkins, where he was named director of pediatric neurosurgery. In 1985 he performed his first successful hemispherectomy, a procedure that removes part of the brain in order to control chronic seizures. He also became known for his work separating conjoined twins, in 1987 completing the first successful separation of craniopagus twins (joined at the head). From the Academy of Achievement autobiographical interview:We had to stay in the house and read these books and our friends were outside and they were playing and they knew we couldn't come out. It seems like they would be making just that much more noise to torment us. But, I hated it for the first several weeks, but then all of a sudden, I started to enjoy it because we had no money, but between the covers of those books, I could go anyplace, I could be anybody, I could do anything. And, I began to learn how to use my imagination more because it doesn't really require a lot of imagination to watch television, but it does to read. You've got to take those letters and make them into words, and those words into sentences, and those sentences into concepts, and the more you do that, the more vivid your imagination becomes. And, I believe that's probably one of the reasons that you see that creative people tend to be readers, because they're exercising their mind.I was reading about people in laboratories, pouring chemicals from a beaker into a flask and watching the steam rise, and completing electrical circuits, and discovering galaxies, and looking at microcosms in the microscope, and I just acquired so much knowledge, and I had put myself into those settings and I saw myself differently than everybody else in my environment who just wanted to get out of school so they could get some cool clothes and a cool car. And, I was looking down the pike and seeing myself as a scientist or a physician or something of that nature, and that was one of the things that sort of carried me through much of the ridicule and some of the hardships that a person would have to go through coming from my environment and going to medical school. The thing that I am probably the most proud of is not all the medical accomplishments or honorary degrees or various boards and societies. I'm most proud of the 100,000-plus letters that I have from young people, throughout America and around the world, whose lives have been changed by reading one of my books, or seeing me on television, or an interview in a magazine, and recognizing that they have the ability to define their own lives. If that's the legacy that I leave, I'll be very happy.I was talking to a friend of mine, who was a cardiothoracic surgeon, who was the chief of the division, and I said, "You guys operate on the heart in babies, how do you keep them from exsanguinating" and he says, "Well, we put them in hypothermic arrest." I said, "Is there any reason that -- if we were doing a set of Siamese twins that were joined at the head -- that we couldn't put them into hypothermic arrest, at the appropriate time, when we're likely to lose a lot of blood?" and he said, "No." I said, "Wow, this is great." Then I said, "Why am I putting my time into this? I'm not going to see any Siamese twins." So I kind of forgot about it, and lo and behold, two months later, along came these doctors from Germany, presenting this case of Siamese twins. And, I was asked for my opinion, and I then began to explain the techniques that should be used, and how we would incorporate hypothermic arrest, and everybody said "Wow! That sounds like it might work." And, my colleagues and I, a few of us went over to Germany. We looked at the twins. We actually put in scalp expanders, and five months later we brought them over and did the operation, and lo and behold, it worked. What statement best explains the change over the 10 year period? 2. Some organizations take prevention programs into high schools. What might that look like in terms of goals and procedures?
