Are different dog breeds different species? Why or why not?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

They are the same species.

Explanation:

Full question: How come some similar animals are different species, while with domestic dogs, wildly dissimilar types are considered different breeds?

-- Z. Kornberg, Jerusalem

Michael Bruford, a professor of biological sciences at Cardiff University in Wales, explains the thought process behind this seeming double standard.

Scientists have been distinguishing between species on the basis of how they look, behave or live since recorded history began. However, two famous scientists stand out in terms of how we perceive species differences today: Carl Linnaeus, an 18th-century Swedish naturalist, and Charles Darwin. Linnaeus was the first person to formulate a single approach for describing species in a hierarchical manner according to their similarity, using his binomial nomenclature of genus followed by species (Homo sapiens, for instance). Darwin was among the first people, and certainly the most celebrated among them, to develop a credible theory on how species evolve (via natural selection). Both of these scientists' insights underpin most of what modern science utilizes when studying species and speciation.

Currently species are still primarily distinguished by their appearance, but it is becoming very clear that looks don't always tell us all we need to know about whether two organisms are different. Many so-called cryptic species exist that, to the untrained eye, look very similar or even identical to another organism--commonly found, for example, in nocturnal mammals such as bats and bush babies. If the two mated, however, they may never be able to produce viable offspring; this, in fact, is the primary criterion for dividing similar organisms into different species. Because of these red herrings--and also because the process of describing species is very long and labor-intensive--scientists are increasingly turning to DNA to assist them in identifying and describing species.

In an ECG pattern, the P wave is caused by?

Answers

Answer:

Depolarization of atrial muscle fibers

The P wave in an electrocardiogram (ECG) pattern is caused by the depolarization (contraction) of the atria.

What does this represent?

It represents the electrical activity that initiates the contraction of the atrial muscles, which is responsible for pumping blood into the ventricles.

The depolarization wave starts at the sinoatrial (SA) node, also known as the natural pacemaker of the heart, and spreads throughout the atria, leading to their contraction.

The P wave is the first deflection seen on an ECG and signifies the initiation of the cardiac electrical cycle. It provides valuable information about the atrial function and can help diagnose certain cardiac conditions.

Compare and contrast what happens in mitosis and meiosis.

Answers

Mitosis and Meiosis-their differences and similarities

Similarities: both mitosis and meiosis are multistage processes. The stages are interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. The same general processes occur in each of these stages for mitosis and meiosis. Interphase is cell growth and DNA replication in preparation for cell division

Differences:(please find it attached below)

The similarities between mitosis and meiosis are as follows:

Both types of cell division take place in the nuclei of the cell. Both involve some common stages like prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. Both forms of cell division initiate from a diploid parental cell. The occurrence of DNA synthesis happens in both sorts of cell divisions.

What is Meiosis?

Meiosis may be defined as the type of cell division that occurs in the germs cells of an individual. In this type of cell division, one parental cell produces four haploid daughter cells. It is also known as reductional division.

The differences between mitosis and meiosis are as follows:

Mitosis produces two daughter cells of diploid nature from a parental cell. These daughter cells are genetically identical to their parental cells. Meiosis produces four daughter cells of haploid nature from a parental cell. These daughter cells are genetically different from their parental cell.

Therefore, it is well described above.

Explain how electron microscopes work and why some scientists might prefer to use electron microscopes instead of light microscopes.

Answers

Answer:

Electron microscopes differ from light microscopes in that they produce an image of a specimen by using a beam of electrons rather than a beam of light. Electrons have much a shorter wavelength than visible light, and this allows electron microscopes to produce higher-resolution images than standard light microscopes.

c. Location/Site
d. Box, pots and plots

Answers

The correct and most appropriate answer option for each of the question are:

1. B. Shed.

2. A. Location/Site.

3. C. Storage place for tools and equipment.

4. A. Boxes, pots, and plots for germinating seeds.

5. A. Soil type.

A nursery bed can be defined as a specially prepared temporary plot of land or garden which serves as a home for raising seedlings (young plants) prior to planting them in the main location (area).

Thus, when older trees in the environment or surrounding dies or are cut-off, these younger plants (trees) propagated in the nursery bed are transferred to replace them.

Some of the criteria or requirements for setting up a nursery bed are;

1. Shed: this is one structure essential in propagating young trees.

2. Location/Site: a place close (near) to a source of water should be chosen because water is essential for plant growth and coolness from extreme heat caused by the sun.

3. Storage place for tools and equipment: it is important to have a complete set of tools or their substitute to be able to carry out all nursery activities properly.

4. Boxes, pots, and plots for germinating seeds: there are three places to germinate seeds, young plants, and young trees.

Pots are used for germinating young trees while boxes and plots are used for raising seedlings.

5. Soil type: different plants need different types of soil.

These include clay, loamy and sandy soil.

The earliest well-known amphibian, Ichthyostega, was found in Late Devonian deposits in Greenland, dating back about 363 million years. The earliest amphibian discovered to date is Elginerpeton, found in Late Devonian rocks of Scotland dating to approximately 368 million years ago.

What happens when rainwater hits sand?

Answers

When rain water hits sand it makes it softer and able to be formed into things.

Answer:

When we mix sand and water, no reaction takes place. The sand simply settles down at the bottom of the water container. This is because sand is heavier than water and hence cannot float in water. The sand can be separated from the water by simple filtration and can be obtained in its original condition after drying.
